Marble trashcans and tie-dye cloths in 大理 // Dali

Funny how experience colors perception. 丽江 // Lijiang, UNESCO and all, holds nothing special for me. 大理 // Dali does not have any titles but feels charming. Rough edges, some construction sites, cables sticking out of walls. Hunks of meat hanging, freshly or packaged flower cakes. Steaming baskets of dumplings, bowls of rice noodles, cheese on a stick. Tricycles and rollers in screaming bright patterns. Flowers, USA flags, stars. Dali is the home of marble, and the Chinese word for marble is actually Dali stone. Even the trashcans are made out of marble…

Tie-dye fabric drying in the sun, looking bright and sophisticated, almost intentional.
