feasting in Puglia Europe, food polpette/fried bread balls at Giù a Sud | Bistrot nei Sassi in Matera fried peppers local soup with legumes filling sandwiches with cheese and fried peppers braised beef doughy pasta with fried peppers yummy chicken salad barbecue ribs a delicious antipasto of fava beans and calamari at La Locanda del Porto in Brindisi some focaccia green soup? antipasti of the sea at Trattoria la Brasciola in Brindisi – we had little idea of what we ordered since the menus were handwritten in Italien (with pencil in notebooks) and the owner didn’t speak any English – but the food was amazing! enjoying codfish with fava bean puree and rapini at Annina 1937 in Matera a delightful sandwich with pork and artichokes at Porcaria – Il Panino Gourmet in Lecce pasta alle vongole in Bari at Buenalleggre taking a break from Italien food and enjoying a Poke bowl in Brindisi Enjoying focaccia three ways in Lecce – tomato and olives, zucchini, potato a Bari snack – Sgagliozza or fried polenta…it was quite greasy and salty, not my favorite panzerotti, usually savory but these were sweet! at Panzeropoli in Bari a sweet treat from Lecce – pasticciotti Leccesi, shortcrust pastry with custard fillings. These are actually purchased in Bari from Martinucci another Puglia classic – Focaccia from a Focacceria – perfect for a picnic in the nearby park. In Polignano a braided yeast bun given to us by the friendly guys from the Focacceria there are many vendors swelling fresh fruit, these were sweet and the perfect treat at the picnic February 9th – 16th, 2024
