It is New Year’s Eve in an average city in China: everyone is busy, I think I am the only one dwelling here and there, looking and observing the activities. Busy working, busy earning money, busy going to school or studying. Busy selling the items before New Year – the real one which is still some weeks away. Preparation for Chinese New Year have already begun but nobody really cares about this other New Year. The news mention it, for example by announcing the last haze of 2016 in Peking and proclaiming the beginning of the New-Year-transition-haze.
The only ones doing non-work stuff are small kids or retirees, often in this combination. Parks are scattered across the city where senior clubs meet to sing, dance or practice tai chi, the water park and amusement park are more popular with the younger kids.
