Hamburg – old and new, but mostly new. Shopping, entertainment of all sorts, modern buildings. More shopping. Christmas lights, Christmas markets, mulled wine because it is cold. Seagulls feeding, people eating, peoplewatching.
Reminders of times gone, attempts at colonialism. The great fire. Heavy trading. Docklands are the new Speicherstadt. Coffee and spices stored in museums, cafés and new cuisine. Most controversial building on the banks of the Elbe. Cost of prestige? Cost of the Elbphilharmonie. Perfect acoustics. A new landmark for Hamburg.
Schanze and Karolinenviertel. Young and student favorite, streetart, graffiti, political stickers. Bikes on bikes on bikes on bikes. Shabby colors, nightlife, hipster food in hipster cafés. Cats in a corner, giraffes on walls. Scribbled messages, creative minds.
A walk under water. Steel construction, architecture of the last century. 426,5m North to South. Passageway for tourists, businessmen, pizza delivery. A single car.
