In fact, most of the traditional restaurants don&#8217;t feature a single vegetarian entr\u00e9e. But there are more and more restaurants serving vegan food or coming up with vegetarian or vegan versions of traditional dishes. Not sure how close they taste to the original though&#8230; I don&#8217;t think it is too similar, to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5302\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.com\/2017\/11\/19\/portwine-and-other-delights-in-porto\/1709_porto_food_02\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5302\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5302\" class=\"wp-image-5302\" src=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/1709_porto_food_02.jpg?w=500\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5302\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Francesinha &#8211; vegetarian version at Francesinha al forno<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Still wanting to try a few traditional things, I braced my guts to try <span class=\"st\"><em>Tripas \u00e0 moda do Porto<\/em>, tripes and bean in a small family-run restaurants. Not bad, but very filling indeed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">As the story goes, there was a time in history when the Porto citizens gave all their good meat and food to soldiers and were left with only intestines &#8211; and so the dish was born.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5303\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.com\/2017\/11\/19\/portwine-and-other-delights-in-porto\/1709_porto_food_03\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5303\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5303\" class=\"wp-image-5303\" src=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/1709_porto_food_03.jpg?w=500\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5303\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tripas \u00e0 moda do Porto<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">My favorite restaurant: <strong>Petisqueira Voltaria<\/strong>, a family run hole-in-the-wall-place serving traditional dishes and &#8220;exclusive&#8221; dishes with the owner&#8217;s own recipes. Codfish and a traditional sausage named <em>alheira<\/em> dominate the menu. A lot of affordable snacks like tartlets and little bits and pieces, served with sauces like portwine reduction or paired with a Caldo verde, Portuguese cabbage soup. The owners are the nicest people, too, so welcoming and friendly.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5304\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.com\/2017\/11\/19\/portwine-and-other-delights-in-porto\/1709_porto_food_04\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5304\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5304\" class=\"wp-image-5304\" src=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/1709_porto_food_04.jpg?w=750\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5304\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">little delights at Petisqueira Voltaria<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Another great restaurant: <strong>Folias de Baco<\/strong>, which means something entirely different then I first thought. My guess (something with <em>leaves, grapes, foil<\/em>?) couldn&#8217;t be more off, ha. But they have a \u20ac20 vegetarian tasting menu for two persons complete with wine, coffee (or tea), salad, olives, cheese platter, a veggie pie and two open-faced sandwiches called<em> Torricados<\/em>. Everything is delicious and definitely worth the wait (a lot of people want to eat here so there is often a queue outside).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5306\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.com\/2017\/11\/19\/portwine-and-other-delights-in-porto\/1709_porto_food_06\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5306\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5306\" class=\"wp-image-5306\" src=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/1709_porto_food_06.jpg?w=500\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"559\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5306\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Folias de Baco &#8211; Vegetarian tasting menu with produce from Douro Valley<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_5307\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.com\/2017\/11\/19\/portwine-and-other-delights-in-porto\/1709_porto_food_07\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5307\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5307\" class=\"wp-image-5307\" src=\"https:\/\/maponmyplate.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/1709_porto_food_07.jpg?w=750\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5307\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torricados &#8211; open faced sandwiches &#8211; and a veggie pie<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">What is more Portuguese than <em>Egg Tarts<\/em>? These custard-filled tarts are often eaten with cinnamon.
