architectural treasures – Moscow

architecture, Europe

One of my favorite museums in Moscow is the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture housed inside a beautiful 18th century building. The exhibition I saw was about sport stadiums (a special exhibition for the soccer World Cup), really well-curated and perfectly embedded into the gorgeous rooms.

An oddity in the architectural world of Moscow is Melnikov’s House from 1929 in the Russian avant-garde style. Surprisingly, this design was approved by the city and so we are able to admire it doay. Its iconic features are the 60 hexagonal windows and the shape of two interlocked cylinders serving as the house’s volume.
