Markets of things alive – 香港 // Hong Kong

Asia

Some touristy stuff to do. Three markets in one day. Fish in bulging plastic bags, hanging on the wall. Little red and orange lives in their own little world. Blue neon lights sending rays through the clear material. Next door: pet stores. Dogs, cats, rabbits. Food stores with roasted goose and other food items. Pebbles and water plants for your fish paradise.

flowers market

Flowers of all variety, in blossom or budding. A sea of orange-gold pots of citrus, wishing good luck for New Year. The place to go for plants in Hong Kong. Carrier of bamboo sticks and magnolia, willow twigs and roses. Available also in neon. It is the weekend. Good for business.

signifier of the bird market

Last market for today. A swarm of pidgeons lead us to the bird market. It is loud. A cat crouches quietly on a green tarp. A parrot sits underneath. Bird food crawls inside of muslin bags. Birds in cages and chained onto wooden rods. The sparrows are free.

Bonus episode: next to the bird market, we stumble upon a street market of food. Favorite pastime of all Chinese.
