Horseshoes in Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon in Northern Arizona is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and fascinating places on earth. The Colorado River has carved amazing formations and details into the rocks. Only a small part is open for visitors and going with a tour is obligatory – it is an Indian reservation.

While worth a visit, tour tickets are pricy and it feels like being loaded onto a cattle cart. Hundreds of tourists are channelled through a small pathway inside the canyon, with barely enough time to look at the scenery. The tour guides are doing a decent job but are not the friendliest of people.

Not far from the canyon, just next to Highway 89, is a well-known spot called Horseshoe Bend where the Colorado River makes a sharp turn. A truly great place to relax from the hustle at Antelope Canyon. Although there are always quite a few tourists, there is plenty of space to sit down and enjoy the amazing view. Just don’t go too close to the edge!

Lastly, don’t forget Lake Powell, created by the little brother of Hoover Dam and a popular recreation area.
